Favosites is an ancient extinct coral. In this unique specimen, tree roots grew through the original fossil millions of years ago. The fossil has a pseudomorph replacement with calcite, dolomite, barite and quartz. There are smaller other marine fossils on top of the petrified roots indicating that there were long periods of sea and land one after another in this particular region. Barite and calcite crystal points are shown growing out of the top of the specimen. Found in Illinois, Hand mined, ethically sourced.
